Dear Readers,
I have been feeling quite reflective recently. It's not new but what is new is me moving out of my 'quiet zone' into interactions with my fellow-artists, friends and even family! It's made me think about several things... I'll let myself ramble a bit here... so please feel free to walk with me as I meander...
I've realized that one can discover oneself by dedicated self-exploration or, alternatively, through active interaction with others. I've found that both work beautifully. Self-exploration generally requires meditation, introspection and solitude whereas active interaction not only adds joy but is also more dynamic and sometimes, hastens the process of self-discovery. The best thing is that this process is mutually beneficial.
Just thinking about my exhibit in 'Illuminate', I only thought my work was done a night before the exhibition but what brought light to my eyes is people touching the exhibit, reading it or even asking me what I really meant. As an introvert, interacting with my viewers was a big challenge but rewarding. I grew, my art grew and as the night ended, music faded and people went home... the lanterns stayed there.. still and somewhat lonely.
The Arts Menagerie is passionate about collaborative efforts, making Art inclusive and getting the wider community involved. "You and Me", as our second interactive exhibition, is representative of our passion and visions. The artwork in this exhibition will be all about actively involving the artist and the viewer. Imagine being able to walk through the exhibition space and be a part of the artwork! You and the artists will find yourself exchanging places every time. Sometimes, you'll be the artist and sometimes the artist will be you- the viewer. Art, on it's own, is magnificent but the emotion or response that it evokes is what makes it dynamic and if I may say- complete in a different sense of the word, almost like fulfillment.
Appreciation, interpretation or even criticism is what makes it interesting. Even no response is a response! But without You- the viewer, our creations would not be preserved or evolve. Art must not be limited to cliques or be exclusive, this world, like any other needs a Creator, a Preserver and Destroyer. We are inviting you to be both Preserver and Destroyer so that we can keeping creating. We look forward to the energy and vitality you'll bring to our artwork and interactive exhibition on October 11 at Chan Andreassend, 5 Rose Road, Ponsonby.
The last few weeks, at The Arts Menagerie, have been interestingly happening. Our artists have been steadily working on their artworks. If you're following our facebook page, you will see each of us, including myself putting a bit about our work, creative processes and vision. You are most welcome to leave your comments and even suggestions!! We will find a way to add links here in case you're not on facebook or meetup. Stay connected and see you on Oct 11!
Will touch base soon!!
Love,
Neha
